The Fair Oaks Horticulture Center is an instructional facility designed to educate home gardeners and landscape professionals in the planting and care of ornamental and edible plants.
The Center began in 1981 with the establishment of the Fair Oaks Community Garden. UC Master Gardeners have expanded the plantings since 1998 and we have installed a demonstration plantings of fruit trees (including âfruit bushesâ), table grapes (30+ varieties), berries (blue, black, boysen, and raspberries), and vegetables. In 2003 we installed a half-acre water efficient landscape demonstration garden. We hold periodic workshops (see schedule), for which we request a donation to maintain the center and develop additional instructional resources.
The Fair Oaks Horticulture Center is a cooperative project between the Sacramento County UC Cooperative Extension, the Fair Oaks Recreation and Park District, and now the Fair Oaks Water District. UC Master Gardeners discuss and demonstrate the topics to be covered during each program.
The center is located in Fair Oaks Park. The park is on Fair Oaks Blvd. (East of Sunrise Blvd.), just south of Madison Ave.
From Hwy 50: take Sunrise Blvd north (about 9 mi. east of Hwy 99), turn right on Madison Ave., and right on Fair Oaks Blvd.
From westbound I-80: Take Douglas Blvd., turn left at stoplight, turn right on Sunrise Blvd., go south a ways and turn left on Madison Ave., turn right on Fair Oaks Blvd.
From eastbound I-80: Take Madison Ave., turn right on Fair Oaks Blvd. Enter the park on Temple Park Rd. (next to the Fair Oaks Library) and take an immediate left into the parking lot and follow it around to the back of the park. Or, on workshop days, just follow the signs when you get to the park.
